Alan B
In a recent posting by Chris C. he discussed the problem with the USB ports on a MacBook/Pro (see: http://www.computeraudiophile.com/node/417). Does anyone have a current generation Mac Mini that they could test and see if the same problem exists? In response to my question at the end of his article , Chris C. posted, that he has also wondered about this as well. Any help would be appreciated. Alan B Link to comment

Wavelength
Guys, It an easy thing to figure out with the Profiler... Apple Icon->About this Mac-->More info.... This will launch the Sytem Profiler. Select USB and it will show you a tree of devices hanging off the system. Just choose one (device will apprear if you pull down View->Refresh) of the ports that nothing else is on and it will work just fine. On the mini there is basically only the Bluetooth and maybe sound that uses the USB. Thanks Gordon J. Alan B
Thanks for the response. As of this time I do not personally own a MAC mini (yet). But as soon as I get back from vacation I will head over to the Apple store and try it out, unless someone posts their results sooner. Thanks Alan B Link to comment
poop
I have a current gen mini (1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo), which I set up last night. Not using USB at this stage, but I can test it out... Aside from playing audio and waiting, is there another way to test? Gordon's post mentions how to view and select each port - is there some way to tell by the structure of the usb tree if the issue is present? Link to comment
The Computer Audiophile
Hi pop - If you have a USB DAC you can connect it to the Mini then look at the UAB tree to see what else if anything is sharing with the DAC. That's the easiest method for me anyway. You can also just look at the tree to view the layout. If you want you can take a screenshot and send it to me. I'll crop and resize it for posting here so everyone can see. Founder of Audiophile Style | My Audio Systems Link to comment
The Computer Audiophile
Thanks Poo - Here is the image for everyone to view. I'm also posting the image of my MacBook Pro USB info and CA reader Markr's MacBook Pro. For all those unfamiliar with the issue, I definitely have the dropout issue with certain ports on my MacBook Pro. Alan B
I ordered my Mac mini last Friday. It should be here Tuesday (7/22). Hopefully by Wednesday I will also have my results with the Benchmark DAC 1 USB hooked up to the USB port of the Mac mini. Thanks to all for their help. Alan B Link to comment
