• High Resolution Download From NIN

Nine Inch Nails has just released a 36 track "album" and made it available as a high resolution download. All 36 tracks are available for five bucks and you can chose between mp3, FLAC, or Apple Lossless formats (see pic below). I wish all music was available this easy at such high quality. From NIN.com "Nine Inch Nails presents Ghosts I - IV, a brand new 36 track instrumental collection available right now. Almost two hours of new music composed and recorded over an intense ten week period last fall, Ghosts I - IV sprawls Nine Inch Nails across a variety of new terrain."

Edit: I forgot to mention nine tracks are available as FREE downloads with the 40 page pdf file. You can't beat free music. But, you have to purchase physical media for the 24/96 versions :-|
Trent Reznor explains, "I've been considering and wanting to make this kind of record for years, but by its very nature it wouldn't have made sense until this point. This collection of music is the result of working from a very visual perspective - dressing imagined locations and scenarios with sound and texture; a soundtrack for daydreams. I'm very pleased with the result and the ability to present it directly to you without interference. I hope you enjoy the first four volumes of Ghosts."

It took me a while to finally get the whole thing as well. My download was going at 8k, then I paused & resumed it and the speed when up to 200k. I finally got it all though. The 40 page pdf is pretty cool in addition to the music.

No WAY. I like NIN. This one doesn't warrant that though. It is 2CD's worth of experiments with band members and an analog-style modular synth for the most part. I like it. I like the material and the sound. I do this type of stuff as a hobby/semipro kind of thing myself - audio and beat synthesis with sound manipulation - so the results here are interesting. For the most part, you can't dance to it though. (disclaimer: I'm not comparing my compositional abilities to Trent or NIN members/collaborators.)
I think that even $75 deluxe box set purchasers might be dissapointed with this one though. $5 FLAC/lossless = VERY GOOD IMO. That is what I purchased, and I am OK with it. I'm not interested in the 24/96 version however. *Regular CA readers: read between the lines there*
I may be wrong, but I'm not wrong long. Buy the $5 flac version.

I agree Mark. I certainly wouldn't purchase this at the store as a physical CD or DVD, but the $5 lossless download is great. I would even spend $10-15 for this if I didn't have to leave my listening chair and I could play it within minutes. High quality downloads get me to purchase music I might not purchase as a physical disc.
