It is a sad day in the household. All of this time my listening room had been shared with my office. Due to a job change for both me and my better half, it needs to become more of an office. This means I need to downsize my Hi-Fi. The good news is there will still be Hi-Fi, just a smaller version. Good things can come in small packages, at least that is what I keep telling myself. This also means I start the unfortunately process of selling off my current system so I can afford ...

Well last week, I go out and get a very nice Audi A7. A vision in silver, as sleek as a blue fin tuna, and as musical as a dead carp. I attempted to load a few CDs into the internal Hard Drive. I was shocked, SHOCKED to learn that the Audi so called "Jukebox", will not load standard Audio CDs because of "legal reasons". I guess some green eye-shade lawyer in Neckarslum had decided that I have no rights under the fair use doctrine. So if I want to check out a few new CDs ...
In the recent issue of Metal Hammer they reviewed many of the staffers top album picks for 2012. This prompted me to look back at my collection come up with my own list. In Metal Hammer they choose to do a top 20 but I am going to limit mine to top three. The Devin Townsend Project - Epicloud Devin Townsend has been around for years making music with various bands, and Epicloud represents his 15th album. Epicloud builds upon the framework that started in other Devin Townsend ...

Please, I need to know quite fast.... The model a very nice member mentioned of Medion is not longer available. I can also get at Nierle.de (also for Belgium) Intenso 3TB and 3.0 USB for the same price. Do you still recommend the Brand Medion? Thanks a lot, Jeannette
In keeping with family (who else would care?) tradition, I am working up a list of my favorite artists/albums of 2012. Of course, I haven't heard it all and could never claim any of this to be the "best". Here is the list so far, in order of when they came to mind (for whatever that implies): Me'Shell N'Degeocello: Pour Une Ame Souveraine - A Dedication to Nina Simone Leonard Cohen: Old Ideas Chrysta Bell: This Train (see ...
I replaced a dying Macbook today with a brand new Mac Mini, stock from the Apple store. Sounds great, no kidding! Just running straight iTunes for now, and enjoying the vast improvement in sound quality! I was considering building one of the new C.A.P.S. servers, but decided I didn't want to wait a few more weeks till all the versions of the new C.A.P.S. servers are published. Not at all sorry - zero buyer regret. Now just waiting to see J. River publish on the Mac. Might ...

Like many of us, my introduction to Indian music in the 1960s was via Ravi Shankar, and I have loved this stuff ever since. He died yesterday, but left us two wonderful daughters whose work are also staples in my collection: Anoushka Shankar and Norah Jones. Just one sample story here.

The 64-bit multistage is the best one for most situations. Damien I'll have to check, but its definitely not 64-bit multistage :) What about Native DSD capacity, Damien? Whats the best option? Thanks
Jazz legend Dave Brubeck has died at age 91. More details abound, like here. I started accumulating a jazz collection when I was in high school, and one of the first albums I rushed out to buy when it was first released in 1959 was Brubeck's Time Out, featuring the immortal Take Five. Already this fine tribute vid has appeared today on YouTube:
